Corona crisis: care for those in need of care

Provincial citizens do not currently have to fear supply shortages in clinics. What is of particular concern to the district administrator is the situation in the nursing homes and the lack of protective equipment.

County - 735 people in the county were infected with the Corona virus until yesterday. And even if the numbers are not verifiable, the district office assumes that around 176 people have already recovered. There are also figures on the age structure of those infected - but not on the severity of their illness: Most infected people (367) are between 35 and 59 years old. 164 are between 15 and 34 years old, 107 between 60 and 79, 61 infected people are 80 and older, 30 between 5 and 14 and six infected people are three years or younger.

Good infrastructure

With the Corona test station, which is opened today in Höhenkirchen-Siegertsbrunn, there are now 21 test stations in the district. For the district administrator Christoph Göbel (CSU) announced innovations in a press conference on Thursday: Some test stations - especially those that were installed near fixed buildings - are to be upgraded. In such a way that people who come there with symptoms after making an appointment are not only tested, but also examined immediately. "Everything with the goal of looking after patients faster," said Goebel.

If someone needs to be cared for in the clinic, a total of 5000 free places are currently available in the city and district of Munich. "We work closely with the city there," emphasized Göbel. If these beds are occupied, there is also another property with clinical infrastructure and another 500 beds. Another 160 beds can be placed in the Isar Amperklinikum. "In addition, our private clinics in the district, such as in Planegg or the Wolfart Clinic in Graefelfing, can accept patients who do not yet need intensive care," said Göbel. "So we can rely on a relatively good infrastructure." At the moment, temporary hospitals in tents are not planned.

Focus on care

What worries him much more is the care of people in need of care. In four nursing homes in the district, residents and employees have already been infected with the Corona virus. Which homes these are, is not communicated to protect residents and relatives. "The shocking thing is how quickly employees and residents become infected when a first case occurs," said Göbel. The spread must be prevented at all costs. Difficult: Protective equipment is still missing at all corners and ends. "This is particularly important for health, elderly and sick care," says Göbel. Although there were some deliveries, the "hotspots" could be supplied just like that. "But we are in reaction mode." It would be much better to equip everyone with appropriate protective equipment. "But we will have far too little for far too long," said Göbel. What particularly annoys him: “Many deliveries are stuck with customs authorities.” That is why they are in contact with companies in the district that can produce directly for the district office, such as a company in Garching, the so-called faceshields, which are protective panes that are used can attach in front of the face. "We use all of our contacts to get material."

Göbel also focuses on the people in need of care who are cared for at home. Good talks are currently being held, for example, with larger hotels that are suitable for temporarily providing care for those in need of care there if the home care service fails. In order to get replacement nursing staff when needed, the district office is currently negotiating with associations such as the Red Cross, which should then organize it. "We are about to conclude a contract."

Central helper office

In order to be able to take care of people at home for as long as possible, there will also be central volunteer management in the district in the future. "We are currently writing this out," says Göbel. This position is designed to provide volunteers who help out with household-related services.
