On Tuesday morning, the employees of the Peissenberg municipal works demonstrated for better pay.

Around 40 employees took to the streets.

Yesterday, the Verdi service union called for a full-day warning strike as part of the ongoing collective bargaining in the public sector in Peißenberg.

At 7.30 a.m., around 40 employees of the municipal works and the municipal building yard gathered for a rally in front of the building yard entrance on Forster Strasse.

The colleagues from the district building yard were also represented by a delegation.

According to Manuel Büttner, the entire workforce took part in the strike, with the exception of employees who were reported sick or absent due to vacation.

“The public employers alone are responsible for an escalation in the collective bargaining dispute.

It is as unnecessary as snow in summer, ”explains the Verdi union secretary.

It was up to the employers to “break with old rituals and make a reasonable offer in the second negotiation date”.

However, that did not happen, which is why the employees had to react with work stoppages.

The warning strike in Peißenberg was only the beginning of the labor dispute: "We will call across the departments for work stoppages in the next days and weeks," said Büttner, who for the Verdi district "Allgäu" also the districts of Weilheim-Schongau and Garmisch -Partenkirchen looked after.

The strikes would not only affect building yards and municipal works, but also hospitals, day-care centers and savings banks.

The union is demanding 4.8 percent more money, at least 150 euros, for a term of twelve months for the nationwide 2.3 million collective bargaining employees from the federal and local governments.

They are also advocating an extension of the partial retirement scheme and an east-west alignment of the weekly working hours.

Bonus payments are also being demanded for employees and nurses who, according to Büttner, “turned their heads during the Corona crisis”.
