TEHRAN - The head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, said the second part of the Ara reactor would be operational

Tehran-Sana

The head of Iran's Atomic Energy Organization, Ali Akbar Salehi, announced that the second section of the Arak heavy water reactor will be operational within the next three weeks.

"We will be operating the second part of the Arak reactor in two or three weeks," Salehi was quoted by the official IRNA news agency as saying.

The reconstruction of the reactor at Arak to be a specialist for nuclear research for peaceful purposes and the production of radioisotopes for medical and industrial purposes was one of the conditions of the agreement on Iran's nuclear program reached by Tehran and the International Six-Party in 2015.

Iran is expected to reduce its obligations under the nuclear deal next month for the fourth time since it began reducing commitments in response to the US unilateral withdrawal from the UN Security Council resolution 2231.
