110,000 asylum applications were submitted between January and September. More than a fifth of the applications concern children under one year. Even the outstanding applications are going back.

The downward trend in the number of asylum seekers continues: In the first nine months of the current year, the Federal Office for Migration and Refugees Bamf submitted around 110,000 asylum applications, more than eleven percent fewer than in the same period of the previous year. This has been announced by the Federal Ministry of the Interior.

21.8 percent of the applications concerned children under the age of one who were born after the arrival of their parents in Germany. The country of origin remains Syria with around 30,000 applications, followed by Iraq with nearly 11,700 applications. In third place came Turkey with just over 8300 applications.

In the month of September 2019, 10,830 formal asylum applications were submitted, 3.6 percent fewer than in the same month of September 2018. Applications that have not yet been decided are also down; in September 2019, there were only 54,662, a year before, 59,738.
