If you want to become a lawyer, you will have more time for your studies in the future. The Bundestag unanimously decided on Friday night to extend the regular study period, including examinations, from four and a half to five years.

The current standard period of study is too short, according to the bill in the bill. Due to the reform of the legal education in 2002, the actual duration of the study increased from an average of 9.6 semesters to 11.3 semesters. The normal period of study in law, however, remained unchanged.

Among other things, the statutory determination of the length of study is important for students, because the state student support is usually only paid during the normal period of study. In the future, prospective lawyers who receive Bafög will have the right to support for one semester.
