After two months of social protests, the Chilean Senate on Thursday approved a constitutional reform that will allow Chileans to opt for a new charter. The authorities set April 2020 as the date to carry out a referendum in which citizens will decide if they want a new Constitution and through which mechanism they would like to create it.
