Today, the US embassy in Baghdad suspended all its consulate general operations until further notice, following the massive sit-ins in front of its building denouncing the aggression on the headquarters of the Iraqi popular crowd, which left dozens of martyrs and wounded.

The embassy said in a statement posted on its official website: "All general consular operations have been suspended until further notice," warning the Americans to "approach their headquarters."

The embassy added in its statement: "The US Consulate General in Erbil is open to obtain visas and services for American citizens."

Hundreds of Iraqi demonstrators had gathered during the past two days in front of the American embassy in Baghdad, renewing their calls to close it and expelling the American ambassador from Iraq, and a number of them were suffocated due to American forces firing gas canisters at them.
