New York: MP warns of drunk driving

A New York MP had asked his voters not to drive drunk after the New Year's Eve party. A few days later, he built an accident - with alcohol in the blood.

First he warned in a column about the danger of alcohol while driving, a little later Republican MP Brian Kolb from the US state of New York himself was drunk behind the wheel. He even built an accident and was arrested by the police.

As reported, among others, by the US broadcaster CNN, Kolb himself left the street with his car on Tuesday night and was finally found by a police officer in a ditch in front of his house. According to him, Kolb's alcohol level exceeded the permitted maximum level of 0.08 percent in the blood.

"Many of our holiday traditions, especially our New Year celebrations, involve drinking alcohol. To a safe and moderate extent, these can be great experiences. But the tragedy can only be a bad decision away," Kolb had previously written. "There's no excuse for drunk driving."

Kolb himself commented on the incident and admitted that he had made a mistake. "I made the wrong decision and deeply regret it," said the politician. Kolb leads the Republican minority in the Lower House of New York.
