Five boys and girls arrested for setting fire to mountain grass in Sheung Shui

Five boys and girls aged 13 to 15 were arrested during an arson incident this (12th) afternoon at the mountain side water channel in Binggang Village, Sheung Shui. Police said that at 3.21 pm today, the police received a report from passers-by that a number of boys and girls were suspected to have fled after burning weeds in a water diversion channel at the hillside of Binggang Village, Sheung Shui. The personnel arrived at the scene and found that the mountain side was about 3 meters by 8 meters.

Police said that at 3.21 pm today, the police received a report from passers-by that a number of boys and girls were suspected to have fled after burning weeds in a water diversion channel at the hillside of Binggang Village, Sheung Shui.

Officers arrived at the scene and found that a wall about 3 meters by 8 meters on the side of the mountain was blackened, and seven suspected LPG tanks and some glass fragments were seized at the scene.

Officers later intercepted the boys and girls outside No. 8 Qingcheng Road. After preliminary investigations, they were arrested for arson and are being detained for investigation. The case was referred to the District Crime Squad of Tai Po for follow-up.

No one was injured in the case and no evacuation was required.
