An Italian artist posted in the streets of Milan portraits of several politicians or wives of past or current presidents.

"Simply because I am a woman". This is the name of a campaign featuring images of famous women. All are women politicians or wives of presidents.

The aim is to use their notoriety to draw attention to violence against women. Their portraits were displayed in the streets of Milan (Italy) by the contemporary Italian artist aleXsandro Palombo. The photos are retouched in such a way that false traces of blows and injuries are visible on their faces.

The image of the following personalities is used for this campaign: Aung San Suu Kyi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and de facto head of government of Burma, Angela Merkel, German Chancellor, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, American Member of Parliament, Brigitte Macron, wife of the President French Emmanuel Macron, Michelle Obama, former First Lady of the United States, Hillary Clinton, former Minister of Foreign Affairs of the United States and former First Lady and Sonia Gandhi, President of the Congress Party, in India.

In a press release sent by his team, the artist said he wanted to "illustrate the drama that affects millions of women around the world".
