Thirteen people were killed and more than 15,000 displaced as a result of sudden floods in southern Tanzania.

The Xinhua News Agency quoted the commissioner of the region, Christopher Ngobiagai, as saying today: The floods caused by the torrential rains in 16 villages in Kailua region have killed at least 13 people, displaced 15,000 others and destroyed thousands of hectares of farmland.

The Commissioner pointed out that the region’s authorities have established 4 shelters to accommodate about 8,000 people, calling on charitable organizations and those concerned to donate relief materials such as medicines, clothes and food.

On Sunday, the Tanzania Meteorological Authority issued warnings of heavy rain in more than 10 regions across the east African country.
