Former Italian Secretary of State, Sandro Gozi is one of the two new LREM MEPs. He was an ephemeral advisor to Edouard Philippe in Matignon.
LE FIGARO. - Why did you resign from Matignon last October?
Sandro GOZI. - I was wrongly suspected of having worked for the Maltese government while being a member of the cabinet of the French Prime Minister. However, I didn't do anything illegal, I didn't break any rules. Besides, there has been no follow-up since this controversy. The reason I left Matignon is neither judicial, legal, nor a conflict of interest. A counselor is there to help and serve. My presence at Matignon had become a controversial subject. This could in any way hinder the action of the Prime Minister - who defended me in the National Assembly. So I said to myself: an advisor, either it helps or it leaves. And I left. It's unfair, it's hard, it's violent ... But politics is often unjust and violent.
