Little is known about the origin of those known as rapid radio bursts. These are energy bursts that manifest in space for a few milliseconds. They usually do not repeat themselves, but if they do it is usually sporadically. However, scientists detected a mysterious radio signal associated with a galaxy 500 million light years from Earth that repeats every 16 days and, in addition, could help understand dark matter.
