The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the US House of Representatives Elliot Engel confirmed that the administration of President Donald Trump provided false information to justify the murder of Lieutenant-General Qassem Soleimani, commander of the Qods Force in the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.

The team Soleimani was martyred with a number of his companions as a result of an American missile attack that targeted them after they left Baghdad Airport.

CBS News quoted Engel as saying in an official statement today, "The official White House report on the operation does not indicate any imminent threat to US personnel and embassies and it appears that Trump's justifications for the American people were false."

Angel also refuted the statement in the White House report on "authorizing" Trump to carry out the assassination of Soleimani under the 2002 mandate to use military force, describing it as a "false interpretation."

The US Senate yesterday approved a resolution to restrict Trump's ability to wage war against Iran, as the decision obliges the US president to withdraw American forces conducting combat operations against Iran unless Congress declares "war or approved a specific mandate to use military force."
