The polls were closed and the vote counting process began for the elections of the Islamic Shura Council and the Council of Leadership Experts in Iran after the extension of the voting period expired this evening.

The Iranian news agency, IRNA, stated that the voting period, which was until six o'clock in the evening, was extended several times first to eight o'clock and then to ten o'clock and then to eleven o'clock and twelve o'clock pm Tehran time.

The elections were held in 55 thousand polling stations within the framework of 208 electoral constituencies throughout the country. The number of those entitled to vote in these elections reached about 58 million, including nearly 3 million for the first time after reaching the legal age of voting, which is 18 years.

The elections for the 11th session of the Islamic Shura Council were launched at eight in the morning in all parts of Iran, and in conjunction with it, the midterm elections for the fifth session of the Assembly of Experts of Leadership took place and 7148 candidates competed to win the 290 seats in Parliament.
