"Ultimately, the authorities have to decide whether a game takes place or not. That is not in our power," said the President of the German Football Association in the "Current Sports Studio" of ZDF. He could not predict whether Bundesliga games or the EM could be affected.
The spread of the novel coronavirus has also had an increasing impact on sport in recent days. For all of Germany, the Robert Koch Institute counted 66 detected infections with the pathogen Sars-CoV-2 by Saturday morning, more than 85,000 people are infected worldwide. "We have a story to deal with soberly," said Keller, who at the same time said, "We have to take it very seriously."
There is a "circle of experts and medical professionals in German football who examine all of this, where we can react relatively quickly," said the DFB president. "We have to rely on the authorities and institutes and then act."
