Is the Balkany couple's conviction severe?

The mayor and the first assistant of Levallois-Perret were sentenced on appeal for tax evasion. They received three years in prison, but without a warrant.

THE QUESTION . The Paris Court of Appeal sentenced Patrick and Isabelle Balkany for tax fraud " of exceptional magnitude ". The mayor of Levallois-Perret and the first deputy were given three years in prison (one year suspended in addition in his case). The Balkany spouses, on the other hand, escape the deposit warrant, which would have meant their immediate imprisonment, but are condemned to ten years of ineligibility, which therefore puts an end to the political career of this couple who reigned over the city of Hauts-de -Seine since 1983. This Wednesday, at the beginning of the evening, the two interested announced that they were not appealing in cassation.

At first instance, some of their loved ones were moved by sentences deemed by them to be excessively heavy. This time, on social networks, some are surprised to see them come out of court free. Did the justice system impose severe penalties in this particularly media-related financial matter?
