The International Automobile Federation (FIA) announced Friday the creation of a coronavirus crisis cell when several motorsport events have already been canceled or postponed due to this epidemic.

This cell will meet once every two days to study the situation regarding the spread of the Covid-19 virus and possible measures to be taken, the FIA ​​announced after a meeting of its world council. " The FIA ​​will consider the current schedule of upcoming competitions and take all necessary measures to protect the motorsport community and the general public, including the postponement of events when necessary, " said a statement.

Several motorsport events have been postponed or canceled due to the coronavirus epidemic. The latest is the Electric Formula Award which was to be held in Rome on April 4. The first e-Prix of the 2019-2020 season, that of Sanya, on the Chinese island of Hainan, which was to take place on March 21, was also canceled for the same reason.

The Formula 1 Grand Prix of China in Shanghai, scheduled for April 19, has also been postponed to a date that remains to be determined. The F1 season is set to open with the Australian Grand Prix on March 15, followed by that of Bahrain on March 22.
