3/8/2020, 4:04:47 PM

The security forces charged demonstrators, mainly women, gathered at Place de la République shortly after 11 p.m. 9 people

"Strong", "proud", "feminist" and "angry". Hundreds of women, accompanied by other demonstrators, marched through the streets of Paris against the violence and inequality they suffer. On the eve of International Women's Rights Day, they wanted to show that at night, the street belongs to women as much as to men.

Part of the Place des Fêtes in the 19th arrondissement, their demonstration had been declared to the Paris police headquarters, therefore authorized. But their night march ended with a face-to-face meeting with the police, nine arrests and seven placements in police custody.

While a call for dispersal was launched around 10 p.m., it was not respected. Two hours after the signal for the end of the mobilization, a police source indicates that "the demonstrators were pushed back to the Place de la République with gas". Then around 11:30 p.m., several videos show the charge carried out by the police against the last walkers. Despite several scuffles, no wounded was brought to the attention of the prefecture.
