Pope Francis left the Vatican in private form and visited the Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore to address a prayer to the Virgin, Salus populi Romani. "Subsequently, making a stretch of Via del Corso on foot, as if on a pilgrimage, the Holy Father reached the church of San Marcello al Corso" to pray for "the end of the pandemic". This was reported by the director of the Vatican press room Matteo Bruni.
