Dizzying figures. Between 3 and 4 million more Americans could register unemployed this week after last week’s 3.3 million unemployed. The most pessimistic projections of the Federal Reserve of Saint-Louis bring to 47 million the number of possible unemployed, if the deliberate shutdown of the economy ordered because of sanitary measures is prolonged. The workforce in the United States is estimated at around 160 million people. The catastrophic scenario would therefore bring unemployment to around 30%. In February it was still 3.5%.

Department store chains, for example, are not among the companies that will receive priority aid, under the law to save the US economy adopted last week. Unlike airlines or aeronautical companies, they are not considered critical to national security.
