INTERVIEW - The former Luxembourg Prime Minister and President of the European Commission (2014-2019), interviewed by Le Soir, a Figaro partner in the Lena alliance, comments on the Eurogroup agreement.

LE FIGARO. - The Eurogroup ended overnight on an agreement where everyone reads what they want. Do you think this is a good agreement?

Jean-Claude JUNCKER. - An agreement which seems to have found agreement with everyone - otherwise it would not be an agreement - is good news. Now, we will have to wait until the dust has settled to examine in detail the quality of the decisions taken, but I think that in general, it is a good reaction, which moreover was necessary for obvious reasons.

Did you fear, like Jacques Delors, that without this agreement, the European project could die?

I was not going as far as my friend Delors, although the warning he issued was at the right time, because there was a great risk of seeing Europe engulf in an endless crisis. I believe that the European Union is not threatened either in its essence or in its cohesion, which will have to be worked with care every day.
