"An incident, which started at around 6.30 p.m. at the Ecouves detention center and involving at least 20 detainees, was still ongoing at 7.30 p.m.", said the prison administration (DAP), adding that it there was "no a priori claim". "The firefighters were on site and the fire was extinguished shortly after 7:00 pm," said the DAP.

Firefighters and police were to be joined by Regional Response and Security Teams (Eris), said the prefecture of Meurthe-et-Moselle, according to which the detainees burned litter and some mattresses. "A mutiny is underway on one floor, colleagues have been called in for reinforcement," Arnaud Gateau, of the UFAP Grand Est union, told AFP.
