May 1: the CGT condemns the opening of the Géant Casino d'Angers

The CGT Commerce condemned the opening, on May 1 and despite the confinement, of the Casino La Roseraie hypermarket in Angers thanks to automatic pay stations and security guards, denouncing an " irresponsible " attitude on the social and health level, a we learned on Friday. The 5,000 m2 hypermarket, which will open from 9 a.m. to 8:30 p.m., sparked a heated controversy last summer when it decided to open on Sunday afternoons with self-service checkouts.

In the fall, his service provider Sasu Evènement had been banned by the courts from employing his employees to help customers of the store go to an automatic cashier on Sundays after 1 p.m., the group being able to only call on security guards. We want to denounce this new social regression of the rights of employees. Indeed, May 1 is the only paid and non-working day in France. It is the international day of the workers ”, recalled the CGT Commerce in a press release.

The union also denounces an “ irresponsibleattitude of the Casino group, which, by choosing to open during a period of sanitary confinement, “ endangers ” the vigilantes of service providers present. Questioned by AFP, the communication direction of Casino signs indicated that several of its stores have been open seven days a week for a year and a half and that 181 are, this May 1, in France.

Last year, we already had a part of our supermarkets which were open on May 1st. What we want is to stick as closely as possible to consumers' expectations. It is an additional service , ”said the group, adding that it had“ done everything to put in place the barrier gestures ”.
