The Ministry of Awqaf has announced the opening of mosques for Friday prayers starting next Friday, according to specific health regulations, while the rest of the group’s prayers are temporarily suspended.
The ministry said in a statement that Sana received a copy of it today that mosques will be opened for Friday prayers only starting from the next Friday, which falls on the 15th of Ramadan 1441 AH, corresponding to May 8, 2020, while the rest of the group’s prayers will be suspended temporarily.
According to the ministry’s statement, Friday prayer rituals will be performed in accordance with specific health regulations requiring worshipers to wear masks and spacing them far enough and sterilize at the mosque’s door.
Health regulations according to the ministry also include closing lights and prayer rooms for women, not attending patients and anyone showing any symptoms similar to corona symptoms, and sterilizing mosques before and after Friday prayers, and that the sermon does not exceed ten minutes, indicating that mosque committees will be responsible for the proper implementation of these health controls each in his mosque.
The Fiqh Council of the Ministry of Endowments and the Union of Levant Scholars issued a fatwa to suspend Friday prayers, sermons, and congregational prayers in Syrian mosques temporarily, starting from the 15th of last March, in the interest of the safety of citizens and visitors to mosques because places of gatherings and crowds increase the risk of infection and the spread of the Corona virus.
