In 30,143 of 35,065 French municipalities, municipal teams were elected in the first round. While the government is preparing to organize the polls in the 4922 remaining municipalities, let us return to the results of the first round.

● Who abstained?

Abstention reached a record rate - for municipal ones - of 55.34%. According to the summary drawn up by Marie Coussin and Nicolas Mondon, of the Fig Data service, Illzach, a city of 14,691 inhabitants of the Bas-Rhin, won the little-envied trophy of the most abstentionist municipality in France (83.81%). Of the sixteen municipalities where the abstention rate has exceeded 80%, there are five in the Bas-Rhin, three in Meurthe-et-Moselle and two in Moselle.

Difficult not to see a link with this epidemic for which the Great East paid, in the first weeks, the highest price. There was also a link between the participation rate and the population of a municipality. As shown in the table below, abstention was “only” by 36.02%
