(CNN Spanish) - A group of 93 Salvadorans returned to the country on Friday on a flight from Mexico, where citizens remained stranded due to the closure of the San Óscar Arnulfo Romero International Airport, inactive since March 18 as part of the measures. to contain the coronavirus outbreak.

Salvadorans arrived on a humanitarian flight that departed from Benito Juárez International Airport in Mexico City.

Before boarding the aircraft, passengers had their temperature taken to rule out possible symptoms of covid-19. All traveled with a mask and some even wore gloves and face shields to reduce the risk of contagion.

Salvadoran Foreign Minister Alexandra Hill received Salvadorans at the airport, who completed a medical and immigration check before being transferred to containment centers, where they must remain for a controlled quarantine, in order to rule out that they are infected with covid-19.

This group has joined other returnees from Panama, Nicaragua and the Dominican Republic in recent weeks. In late April, the chancellor had stated that there were about 4,000 Salvadorans who were stranded abroad, and that priority would be given to vulnerable groups.
