Guinea singer Mory Kantè died today in Conakry at the age of 70. His son, Balla Kante, told AFP. Kante climbed the European music charts in 1988 with the song 'Yeke Yeke', a great success first in Africa and then also in the Old Continent.

"He had chronic diseases and often went to France to seek treatment, but with coronavirus it was no longer possible," said the son. "We have seen his health deteriorate rapidly," he added. Guinea President Alpha Condé expressed his condolences via Twitter and thanked Kante for his music, saying that "African culture is in mourning".
