The US Supreme Court today dealt a new blow to President Donald Trump and his tough policy towards immigrants and issued a ruling rejecting his efforts to end a program that would prevent the deportation of hundreds of thousands of immigrants, especially those who entered the United States illegally as children.

Reuters reported that five of the nine judges upheld today a lower court ruling that ruled that Trump's quest in 2017 to repeal the law passed under his predecessor Barack Obama in 2012 on immigration was illegal.

The ruling means that about 649,000 immigrants, mostly adults who were born in Mexico and other Latin American countries, will remain immune from deportation under the law and are entitled to work permits for a period of two years, renewable.

Trump has pursued abusive racist policies in the immigration file since he came to power, to the point of detaining immigrants on the US border with Mexico, separating children from their families and locking them in cages, which sparked widespread criticism inside and outside the United States.
