(CNN Spanish) - Liverpool, leader of the Premier League, could not go from 0 to 0 on their return to activity in England. Those led by Jürgen Klopp faced their traditional rival Everton, in a new edition of the Merseyside derby.

It was Liverpool's first official match since March 11, when it was eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League at the hands of Atlético de Madrid from Argentine Diego Simeone.

More than three months later, the Reds entered Goodison Park with empty stands, seeking a win that would allow them to maintain a 25-unit lead over their shooting guard Manchester City, who thrashed Arsenal 3-0 on Wednesday. Liverpool showed an opaque image before an Everton that even almost took the game with a shot by Tom Davies that hit the goal post defended by Alisson Becker.

Despite the tie, Klopp's team remains first in the table with 83 points and 30 games played. Manchester City follows with 60 units and 29 games played. Pep Guardiola's team will catch up on Monday when they face Burnley and try to prolong Liverpool's wait to win an English league again after 30 years.
