The As-Suwayda Agriculture Directorate estimated the governorate’s total production of the peach crop for the current season at about 130 tons, the majority of it for rain-fed crops.

In a statement to SANA correspondent today, the Director of Agriculture, Eng. Ayham Hamed, said that the estimated production is good and relatively better than last year, as a result of good rainfalls and appropriate weather conditions during the current season.

He also pointed out that the total area planted with peaches in the governorate is 960 dunums, and the total number of trees planted with the crop is 37 thousand trees, of which the fruit is 30 thousand, indicating that the cultivation of peaches is distributed in the various regions of the governorate.

As-Suwayda governorate produced 102 tons of peaches last season.
