Muhammad Atwi, a former Lebanese national team player who signed only a few days ago with his new team Tadmon from the city of Tzur, was shot in the head by a stray bullet during the funeral of one of the firefighters killed in the violent explosion that shook Beirut about two weeks ago.

During the funeral procession in the Cola area of Beirut, the traditional shooting began in the air, but Atwi and a security man were hit by stray bullets. The 32-year-old footballer was rushed to hospital in critical condition. The hospital later told the media that "Atwi suffers from internal bleeding and underwent surgery that lasted about five hours, during which the bullet was removed from his head."
