Italy has registered 1,071 new cases of coronavirus in the past 24 hours, recording its worst daily toll since the end of containment in May, according to an official report published on Saturday 22 August.

The health ministry's report also shows three deaths, bringing the death toll to 35,430 for a total of 258,136 cases since the start of the pandemic.
