Thursday, three children and their parents were outside the supervised area, north of Carcans beach, when they found themselves in difficulty in the water, probably in a baïne, a kind of natural basin forming at low tide. , but which can then lead out to sea.
A 10-year-old child could have been brought back to the beach. But the 46-year-old father and 17-year-old daughter were swept away by the current, like a 13-year-old son.
Rescuers quickly recovered the father, but he could not be revived. The searches, supported by a civil security helicopter then a military helicopter, then made it possible to recover the young girl's body. The 13-year-old son had remained untraceable despite searches.
