The corona continues to seep into world football. Tonight (Sunday) Barcelona announced that Miralem Pjanic, the new acquisition, is positive for the virus and therefore will not be able to take off for Catalonia in the next 15 days.
The immediate implication is that Pjanic, who is waiting to join his new team, will miss the opening of Ronald Koeman's training session on 31 August. According to a statement from Barcelona, Pjanic underwent a corona test after feeling unwell in recent days. "His condition is good and he is in home isolation," according to the club's announcement.

As you may recall, the 30-year-old Pjanic signed last June for four years at Barcelona, as part of a trade with Juventus for Arthur, who will leave a controversial legacy in Barcelona and a long list of disciplinary offenses. Pjanic signed until the end of the 2023/24 season, with a release clause estimated at about 400 million euros.
