Coronavirus: Istanbul bans indoor weddings and ceremonies

Children and people over 60 will not be allowed to participate in outdoor ceremonies, said the governor of Turkey's largest city.

Istanbul authorities announced measures to limit weddings and other ceremonies in Turkey's largest city on Saturday, as the number of daily Covid-19 cases and deaths peaked in the country in addition two months.

As of Monday, indoor weddings, engagements and circumcision ceremonies will be prohibited, announced the governor of Istanbul. Children and people over the age of 60 will not be allowed to participate in outdoor ceremonies, which will still be able to occur, he added.

The restrictions were announced hours before Health Minister Fahrettin Koca announced that 1,549 new cases of Covid-19 had been diagnosed in Turkey, the highest daily rate since mid-June. 39 deaths have also been recorded, a sad record since mid-May, he added.
