The death toll from the passage of Hurricane Laura over Louisiana and Texas has risen to at least 14 dead. Local and health authorities report this.
Louisiana Governor John Bel Edwards confirmed that at least 10 people lost their lives in his state, including five due to carbon monoxide produced by portable generators used inside buildings due to a lack of electricity. Another 4 died from falling trees, while a man drowned in the sinking of his boat caused by the storm. Almost 500,000 homes have been without electricity since yesterday. Also in Texas, 3 of the 4 victims died from carbon monoxide poisoning.

Before arriving in the United States and becoming a tropical storm last Thursday, Hurricane Laura caused 31 deaths in Haiti and 4 in the Dominican Republic last Sunday.
