Netflix has the Trisolaris trilogy by the Chinese author Liu Cixin filmed as a series.

The three science fiction volumes tell the story of mankind's first contact with an extraterrestrial civilization.

The creators of the streaming adaptation are the scriptwriters and executive producers David Benioff and DB Weiss ("Game of Thrones") and Alexander Woo ("True Blood").

"A release date has not yet been set at the current time," said a statement on Tuesday.

"The Three Suns" and its two sequels "The Dark Forest" and "Beyond Time" appeared from 2006 and were a worldwide sales success.

The Trisolaris trilogy begins in the midst of the Chinese Cultural Revolution in the 1960s, when an astrophysicist is killed in front of his daughter Ye Wenjie.

Years later, Ye Wenjie himself works on a secret research project and receives signals from space - from the planet Trisolaris.

The traumatized researcher hopes for peaceful aliens and sends an answer.

In doing so, she changes the course of things.
