Berlin urges the European Union to welcome migrants

The fire at the reception center for migrants and refugees in Moria, on the island of Lesvos, has left Angela Merkel's government in a bind.

In Berlin, when it comes to migration policy, German and European solidarity often go hand in hand.

But for the mayor of Rottenburg, that time has finally come after the fire in the Moria refugee camp, regardless of the respective obligations.

It is obvious that the situation requires urgent aid and we are pushing for Germany but also the European Union to assume their responsibilities, support Greece and welcome the refugees in good conditions

", launches the mayor of this small town from Baden-Württemberg, a delegation of which had just visited the island of Lesbos last February.

, the desire of his municipality to welcome more migrants, and this in the name of Christian morality.

And accuses the Minister of the Interior, Ernst Seehofer, of opposing his approach.
