In Nicaragua, the immigration authorities reduced the stay in the territory to two foreign priests with several years of pastoral work in the north of the country, for maintaining a critical position to the government of Daniel Ortega, as the secretary of the Episcopal Conference denounced.

Several human rights organizations warn of what they consider to be a resurgence of repression against the Catholic Church.
