While measures restricting visits to residents of nursing homes were announced by the prefects in Gironde and Bouches-du-Rhône on Monday, the situation in two establishments in Aveyron and Ain is particularly worrying.

In Sévérac-d'Aveyron, eight residents of the Gloriande nursing home affected by Covid-19 have died since Thursday and four are currently hospitalized, the prefecture said Monday evening in a new assessment.

The last official report on Sunday reported five dead.

The alert was given in this nursing home, located about forty kilometers east of Rodez, on September 4 with the detection of several positive cases in five residents and one employee, which had triggered a general campaign of tests in establishment.

The results arrived on September 6 revealed a total of 38 residents and 11 positive staff, according to the prefecture.

An appeal launched to other nursing homes in Aveyron

A second screening took place on September 7, revealing 15 new residents and 9 new staff tested positive, for a total of 53 residents and 20 staff affected by Covid-19.

According to the prefecture, "the establishment could not be sectorized given the number and distribution of residents" tested positive, "except for a protected unit with twelve Alzheimer's patients, all unharmed.

The residents are confined to rooms and under close surveillance despite the reduced staff ”.

The management of the establishment and the ARS Occitanie had launched an appeal for solidarity with other nursing homes in Aveyron to obtain reinforcements, in particular nursing assistants.

From the start of the weekend, the nursing home received reinforcement from Civil Protection personnel and a nurse.

Families from the town have also mobilized to help, in particular “during meal times”.

Aveyron had so far been largely spared by the coronavirus pandemic.

Visits suspended at "La Pergola"

In Ain, 12 residents of an Ehpad in Bourg-en-Bresse died "in recent weeks as a result of their contamination" with the new coronavirus, the Ain prefecture, the regional agency announced on Monday. of health (ARS) and the department.

The private establishment for the elderly "La Pergola" had reported at the end of August suspicions of Covid-19, leading to the organization of a collective screening of all 95 residents as well as about fifty members of staff, specified the authorities in a press release.

“As a result of this screening, 46 people were confirmed positive for Covid-19.

12 residents have unfortunately died in recent weeks, as a result of their contamination ”, they added.

Covid units have been set up to isolate infected people from other residents and family visits have been temporarily suspended, while psychological support has also been deployed in the establishment.
