Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov confirmed that the West may take advantage of the case of Russian opposition Alexei Navalny to impose additional sanctions on Russia.

Russia Today channel quoted Lavrov as saying in a statement to "RTVI" channel .. "Had it not been for the Navalny case, they would not have fabricated any other pretext to impose additional sanctions," noting that Western countries "have crossed all reasonable limits."

Lavrov added that Moscow could not believe the statements and open a criminal case on this basis, indicating that this requires observing certain procedures and verifying information before opening the investigation.

Lavrov described Navalny's case as an ambiguous story, pointing out that the Russian Public Prosecutor had addressed Germany on August 27 a request to provide legal aid in the Navalny case, but it has not received any response yet.

And Lavrov confirmed the day before yesterday, Moscow's readiness to respond to any new sanctions that may be imposed by Western countries, in accordance with the principle of reciprocity.
