This Thursday,
Rick Moranis was
walking calmly in New York City and was the victim of a surprise street attack.
A video shows the 67-year-old actor assaulted by a stranger.
Rick was walking around 7:30 a.m. near his apartment, west of Central Park.
So far, the NYPD has referred to the attack as "random" and "unprovoked."
In the recording you can see when a man unexpectedly approached him and threw him to the ground with a blow to the head.
The altercation was registered in the security cameras of the sector and although the local police have not yet found the person responsible for these events, they are looking for the suspect who fled the scene.
In addition, it is public knowledge that Moranis went to the hospital for a medical evaluation since he had pain in his head, back and hip, and later he went to a police station to report what happened.
At the moment, a representative of Moranis through a statement said, "He is well and grateful for everyone's thoughts and good wishes."
Faced with this incident, Hollywood celebrities and fellow actor were present on social networks to show their support.
One of them is
Chris Evans
, who wrote on his Twitter account, "My blood boils. Find that man. You don't touch Rick Moranis."
Writer / director
Judd Apatow
also tweeted, "This is the worst news in the last two days. That's why Rick Moranis avoided our country for decades. I guess he was right all along. We don't deserve it."
Recall that Moranis reached fame in the 80s and 90s and was a mainstay especially in the comedy genre.
The Canadian was absent from the big screen after focusing his time on being a single father after the death of his first wife.
His last prominent role in a movie was in 1997's "Honey, We Shrunk Ourselves." In 2005, he released a country music album "The Agoraphobic Cowboy," which was nominated for a 2006 Grammy for Best Comedy Album.
He had recently signed on for a 'Disney +' sequel to 'Honey, I Shrunk the Kids' alongside
Josh Gad
and appeared in an ad for a mobile phone company with fellow Canadian
Ryan Reynolds
