Pence versus Harris: The runners-up in a duel

2.45 am:

Good night and welcome to the second TV duel in the election campaign for the US presidential election 2020. After Donald Trump and Joe Biden competed against each other a week ago in the race for the highest office in the USA, we are debating today their "running mates": Donald Trump's Vice President Mike Pence meets Democratic Senator Kamala Harris, Biden's number two.

Harris should make the corona crisis an issue.

Pence, for his part, is under pressure: President Trump has contracted the virus, his deputy has to score.

The first TV duel between Trump and Biden turned into a scream fight in which factual topics were largely lost.

"Harris vs. Pence" could be the only one of the debates in this year's election campaign in which viewers get to know the substantive positions of the two camps.

(Read here what will be important in the course of the evening.)

The debate will take place on the premises of the University of Utah in Salt Lake City.

It will take 90 minutes.

Susan Page, head of USA Today's Washington office, moderated.

At this point we will keep you up to date on all developments in the duel, it starts at 3 a.m.
