Emmanuel Sapin: "Extending the period of abortion from 12 to 14 weeks raises serious ethical questions"

TRIBUNE - An LREM bill, adopted at first reading in the Assembly on October 8, extends the period for resorting to abortion from 12 to 14 weeks. The professor of medicine, head of the pediatric and neonatal surgery department at Dijon University Hospital and specialist in fetal surgery *, criticizes the decision of the majority deputies.

Several bills have just been voted in the National Assembly to authorize the extension of the period of recourse to abortion from 12 to 14 weeks, to train midwives in the practice of surgical abortion and to eliminate the double conscience clause for practitioners (a conscience clause specific to abortion).

Last summer, moreover, the Assembly adopted an amendment allowing an IMG of up to 9 months on the grounds of "psychosocial distress".

These texts are now submitted for consideration by the Senate.
