A giant globe-shaped aluminum bar, complete with five brass stools, from Hitler's yacht 'Aviso Grille' will be auctioned in Maryland for an estimated $ 250,000.

The Alexander Historical Auctions - writes the Guardian - describes the find, which remained hidden for 70 years in a barn, as "simply a fantastic relic, a symbol of the false greatness and excesses of the Reich".

Hitler's boat was built in 1935 and lasted four years longer than the Furher.

The bar was salvaged when the ship was decommissioned at a shipyard on the Delaware River in 1951.

It was an ignominious end for a yacht that Hitler said he wanted to go up the Thames if he managed to invade Britain. The metal was sold to the US military but, according to the auction house, the bar ended up in the hands of a friend of the yard owner, whose son kept it.

The identity of the current owner has not been revealed but the auction house quoted a statement from him: "My father - he said - was a close friend of the owner of the yard who invited him personally and gave him the opportunity to buy the bar ".
