The industrialist Vladimir Marugov, known in Russia as the "sausage king", was killed in his sauna on Monday.
This was reported by the British news channel BBC and the Reuters news agency, among others.
Several masked men broke into Marugov's property outside Moscow and tied him and a woman, the so-called investigative committee, a kind of Russian BKA, said.
The men demanded cash and then shot the entrepreneur with a crossbow.
The murder weapon was found.
The woman was reported to have managed to escape and alert the police.
The perpetrators drove away from the crime scene in a car that was later found in a suburb of Moscow.
Marugow owned the meat processing companies "Ozyorsky Würste" and "Fleisch-Imperium".
