Usa 2020: record female candidates for Congress

In the elections for the Congress there is a record number of female candidates, including black ones: 318 for the 535 seats available between the Chamber (renews in full) and Senate (renewed for a third). Of these 318, 117 are women of color. The previous record dates back to the 2018 Midterm elections, when 257 women took the field. Among the possible novelties Candace Valenzuela, who if she wins in the 24th district in Texas would become the first 'black Latina' in Congress. Cori Bush, a progressive nurse who distinguished herself in protests against police brutality in Ferguson in 2014, may instead become the first African American woman to represent Missouri in Congress. Finally Joyce Elliot, state senator from Arkansas, could become the first African American exponent of this state in Congress. Currently 127 women sit in Congress, 48 ​​of whom are black.
