(ANSA) - BEIJING, 05 NOV - China temporarily suspends the entry into its territory of citizens residing in Italy in possession of Chinese visas and residence permits for reasons of work, private business and family reunification.

The Chinese embassy and consulates in Italy will no longer provide the 'health declaration' certification services required to return to China.

The squeeze, we read in an announcement on the website of the embassy in Rome, is due to the new wave of Covid-19 in Europe and has already affected other countries such as Great Britain and Belgium.

Shortly before, the Asian country had announced new travel bans on arrivals of people without Chinese passports and from countries such as Great Britain, Belgium and the Philippines, in response to the new surge in Covid-19 cases.

Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin said that "the warnings issued by Chinese embassies in various countries are only temporary measures to deal with the coronavirus pandemic".

Beijing, he added, "has learned from the practices of many countries and has adapted its approach to changes in the situation".
