As sanitary conditions were not met, the prefect of police decided to limit the demonstration organized by the journalists' unions to a rally at Place de la République.

The demonstration scheduled for next Saturday, November 28, against the global security law, was banned on Tuesday by the police chief, Didier Lallement.

The request to the prefecture, filed by several journalists' unions (SNJ-CGT, CFDT journalists, SGJ-FO), provided for a route starting at Place de la République at 2 p.m., which would have ended at 6 p.m. at Place de la Bastille.

But the police chief decided otherwise, "

considering that the virus particularly affects the territory of Paris and those of the departments of the inner suburbs

".

"

Only statically organized participations are likely to avoid the mixing of populations and therefore prevent the spread of the virus, or at least slow it down sharply, if they are organized in outdoor spaces large enough for the distance of 1 meter minimum between two people can be easily respected,

”he explains.

Thus, the prefect of police, who also quotes the

"context of particularly acute terrorist threat which always calls on a high level the internal security forces to guarantee the protection of the people against the risks of attack"

, decided that this demonstration not would ultimately be a gathering place de la République in Paris.
